Learning Outcomes and Application This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to determine technology requirements, research products, make recommendations and present requirements appropriately on design documentation.This unit applies to interior designers, including kitchen and bathroom designers. They analyse and compare product information from a wide range of different sources to develop a design solution.No licensing or certification requirements exist at the time of publication. Relevant legislation, industry standards and codes of practice within Australia must be applied.
Duration and Setting X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting.

Element: Determine project requirements
  • Evaluate project specifications, parameters and constraints, and confirm with client
  • Select work resources based on the needs of the project
  • Identify key project stakeholders and establish required communication protocols
       
Element: Research options for embedded technologies
  • Identify credible sources of information on proposed technologies
  • Analyse intended use and review against functional features of different products
  • Analyse and evaluate product properties for their suitability and compliance with Australian Standards
  • Source information about costs and availability and compare against the project brief
  • Identify and integrate potential sustainability features or issues into the research process
       
Element: Refine ideas and select preferred solution
  • Explore and refine different options for integrating technology into the space through a process of reflection and testing
  • Choose a preferred solution based on research findings and the key objectives of the project brief
  • Present recommendations in a format and level of detail that suits the client and scope of the project
  • Clearly articulate and present rationale for the chosen solution to the client
  • Seek client feedback on the proposed solution and make adjustments accordingly

  • Develop documentation detailing information about embedded technologies required for installation using appropriate drawing protocols
  • Provide an evidence-based estimate for embedded technologies purchase and installation
  • Present the completed design documentation and costing in a professional format.

Assessment Tasks
